About The Rainbow Connection Sponsorship Program

The Rainbow Connection (TRC) has been granting wishes to Michigan children that have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness since 1985. In an effort to support our Wish Children before, during and after their wish, several support programs have been developed. The TRC Scholarship Program is one of these support programs.  Since the program began back in 2005,  over 200 scholarships have been provided to these amazing and talented Wish Children.

We are honored to support our wish children as they proceed on to life's many challenges and rewards.  Certainly these children have a wisdom and strength we can all learn and grow from.  What better way to honor them than to lend a helping hand in furthering their education?

Previous Scholarship Recipients

Medina, Wayne State University

Wished to go to Hawaii in 2017

After an extensive battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Medina's wish to go to Hawaii was granted! A light at the end of a dark tunnel, her wish trip was much more than a once in a lifetime experience. It was the symbolic closing of one chapter of her life and the beginning of a new one.

From snorkeling off the Maui coast, to watching the sunrise over Mt. Haleakala, to the immersion in Hawaiian culture, it was an unforgettable experience.  Her wish gave Medina an appreciation for life and an itch to give back to the community in the same way it has so generously given her. Medina is currently pursuing a B.S. in Information System Management at Wayne State University.

Austin, Saginaw Valley State University

Wished to go on a Shopping Spree in 2017

When Austin pictured his high school experience, he did not imagine being diagnosed with Melanoma.  After undergoing multiple surgeries, he was unable to actively participate in sports, go to school, or hangout with friends. It was difficult to maintain a positive mindset, but having his wish to look forward to gave Austin hope through his  treatments.

His wish to go on a shopping spree was granted in 2017! Knowing the tremendous impact his wish had on him, Austin hopes to help make another kid's wishes come true as well. He is currently attending Saginaw Valley State University and working towards becoming a Registered Nurse.

Nadine, Madonna University

Wished to go to Disney World in 2002

When Nadine was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 4, her life quickly changed. She underwent treatment for 2 years, lost her hair, and spent time in the hospital. Her Disney wish was a source of hope and joy, one that restored a piece of the childhood that she missed out on.  Nadine described her wish experience, "Being at Disney made me forget about the cancer. There, I could forget about all that stuff and just be a kid and do kid things all day."

Now a young adult, Nadine has taken her past experiences and channeled it into her next dream: becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Nadine explains "I hope to inspire others who fought the same battle I once endured and prove that cancer cannot win or impact my dreams and goals."
